The Monroe Youth Challenge Program in partnership with the Monroe County School District is hosting a "Turn On The Lights" Town Hall Meeting at Coral Shores High School on December 10th at 6pm. Guest speaker, Lou Colombo, from The Passage Group, will present this National Parent Awareness Campaign live to community leaders as well as parents from the uppper Florida Keys. This campaign gives parents a direct look at today's toxic culture through the eyes of our children. This Town Hall Meeting is the first of three scheduled throughout the Keys in December and January.
Monroe County is also implementing Parent-To-Parent, which empowers and networks parent who face the challenge of raising children in today's toxic culture. Keep up the great work Monroe County!

"Turn On The Lights" was featured at the opening ceremony of the Florida Statewide Prevention Conference this past October 2nd, 2007. The speakers included William Janes, Director of The Florida Office of Drug Control, Florida Attorney General, Bill McCollum and myself. I presented the original "Turn On The Lights" video to an audience of about one thousand prevention professionals. I think the message and materials were well received. We were scheduled to present one workshop but ended up with two to accommodate the number of conference attendees. Over one thousand "Turn On The Lights" DVD's were distributed. As a result of this exposure I have been invited to speak at several schools, conferences, town hall meetings and other community events. This is a tremendous boost for our Parent Awareness Campaign and our Parent-To-Parent Program.
This entire opportunity was made available to The Passage Group because of one very special person who saw the value in our efforts. Joy Mills contacted The Passage Group several months earlier after previewing the Turn On The Lights video and asked if she could include it in this years conference. That request evolved into an invitation to speak at the opening ceremony, an opportunity I consider priceless. A special thanks to Joy Mills, Meeting Masterminds, Inc.
